PROJECT1:

A Community Hub

This is project 1 for the year, we were asked to design a community hub that could can be adaptable to any type of context. The project sounded easy but it was actually challenging, because the brief asked us to use gumpoles and marine ply as our primary building materials.

The main purpose of the brief was to design a Community Hub with any of the following functions; HOMEWORK SPACE, MEETING SPACE, PLAY SPACE & SHELTER.

The Community Hub should serve as a place which is easily accessible to everyone in the community, spaces should allow for easy movement and spaces should also create an atmosphere of belonging.

The Main focal point of the Community Hub was the tower, which is used as a service core - for the electrical wiring. The tower is a very significant part of the hub- it is like a monument.

The spaces that I chose for this project were; HOMEWORK, PLAY & MEETING. 

MODEL 1 - CONCEPTUAL(above) - This model shows how I want to arrange the 3 different spaces and how these 3 spaces relate to the TOWER. Model just gives an idea of my thought processes.

MODEL 2 - STUCTURAL MODEL(above) - This model is a further development of the previous model, whereby this model shows the structure e.g. the gumpoles as columns, marine ply as the roof  

MODEL 3: TECHNOLOGY & STRUCTURAL(above) - This model shows the gumpole structure of the community hub, it shows the connections of the roof and how these different elemnts are proposed to be joined together.

MODEL 4 - TECHNOLOGY & STRUCTURAL (left & above right) - This model is a futher development on MODEL 3 , because now it shows the entire make up of the building and how it will probably be assembled.
